The Dales comprises river valleys and the hills, rising from theVale of York westwards to the hilltops of the Pennine Watershed. The North York Moors is a National Park in North Yorkshire, England, containing one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom. Bronte Country is a windswept land of heather and wild moors, it is hardly surprising that this region became the inspiration for the classic works of the Bronte sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne. The County town of York is a historic walled city.
